Brett wanted a solar and battery system that could do more than generate electricity during the day. His goals included reducing his electric bill, supporting the additional energy needs of EV charging, managing time-of-use electricity costs, storing solar energy for later use and maintaining backup power during grid outages.
Reduce his electric bill
Offset household use
Help offset EV charging energy
Manage time-of-use costs
Store solar for later use
Provide backup during outages
Finance system ownership through GoGreen
Green Additions designed and installed a 4.92 kW DC solar system paired with approximately 10 kWh of Enphase battery storage. The completed system combines 12 × 410W solar panels, 12 × Enphase IQ8MC microinverters, two Enphase IQ Battery 5P units, an Enphase IQ System Controller, monitoring and a new 125A backup/load panel.
For this project, the value of the system is not only how much electricity the solar array can produce, but also when that energy can be stored and used. The system gives Brett greater flexibility to use solar energy later in the day, account for EV energy needs and reduce reliance on utility electricity during higher-cost time periods.

Enphase system equipment integrated with the home’s existing electrical service
Brett’s project was designed with EV energy needs and time-of-use costs in mind. Under SCE, his plan is TOU-D-PRIME, with interconnection under the Net Billing Tariff.
Pairing solar with battery storage lets Brett store solar energy and use it later in the day, helping offset EV charging energy and reduce reliance on utility electricity during higher-cost time periods.
Solar panels alone do not automatically keep a home powered during a utility outage. Brett’s project included battery storage, system controls and a new 125A backup/load panel so the appropriate household loads could be supported by the battery system when the grid is unavailable.
For homeowners who want to own their solar and battery system without paying the entire project cost upfront, Green Additions offers financing options including GoGreen Financing. Brett’s project is a real-world example of how financing can make a complete solar + battery solution more accessible while allowing the homeowner to retain system ownership.

Brett’s project took approximately 5 months from contract signing to system activation. The longer timeline reflected the heavy end-of-2025 solar industry and utility rush, and should not be presented as a standard Green Additions timeline.
Typical Project Timeline
A reasonable average under typical conditions. Actual timelines can vary depending on permitting, inspections, utility interconnection, equipment availability and project-specific conditions.
The solar and battery system was successfully installed and commissioned, giving Brett a completed energy system designed around bill reduction, EV-related electricity use, time-of-use management and backup capability.
